Self-Portrait Project – Afternoon Camp – 6/29 – 7/1 (Ages 12-18)
The class will have a 10-minute slideshow of the Elements of Art. The slideshow will have images of the specific project we’re going over for that week. There will also be images of the artist and their work that is similar to the project. During the first day, the students will be split up into partners and will have to draw a quick sketch of that person for 15-20 minutes in their sketchbook. This will help the students understand more of the facial descriptions for their own self-portrait. Then the students will draw an image of themselves. It is a requirement that all students bring in a close-up picture of themselves for the class. Throughout the remainder of the week I will show them how to make their self-portraits come to life through line, color, value, dimension, and texture. In the last step, the students will use acrylic paint as a medium to color in their pieces.
