Kids in the Kitchen

Mom and Dad, enjoy a healthy meal for a family of 4, made with love for you by your junior chef! Each fun afternoon in the Mary C Culinary Cafe is a hands-on lesson in life skills and exploration of the art and science of food.

Swing in Style

Make this holiday season the most fabulous ever by sewing in the style of Swing. Get ready for our Coast Big Band performance by having your very own swing dress, or big band era bow tie. All experience levels of sewers are welcome and one outfit per person will be finished upon the completion of this class.

Beaded Jewelry - Making Workshop

During this 4 - hour session, students will learn different techniques to design and create a variety of beautiful jewely using crystals, glass beads, sterling silver charms, etc. Select your colors and designs from a huge selection of high quality beads, charms, and findings. You will learn how to attach the clasps for a professional finish and show off your one-of-a-kind pieces. 
We will use sturdy nylon-coated stainless steel wire. During the first two hours, we will be creating jewelry for the Mary C. O'Keefe Gift Shop. During the second part of the workshop, you will create a set of necklace and earrings to take home and wear. Swarovskis, Czech crystals, cultured pearls, and natural stones will be available for your designs. Jewelry supplies include sterling silver charms and spacers. All supplies and tools are provided and included in the fee. Lunch is included in this workshop.

Ocean Springs Figure Drawing Group

Calling all artists! Whether you sketch, paint or sculpt, drawing the figure has historically been one of the best ways to continue to hone your skills. The group will meet weekly to draw from live models. There will be no instructor, just a session organizer.

Age requirement: 21 years and older

Landscape Painting in Acrylics

Learn about acrylic painting from local artist Bruce Seabolt. Recognized for his beautiful coastal landscapes, his was was chosen recently for the cover of DeSoto Magazine. In this class you will learn how to paint skies, clouds, water, trees, sandbars, marshes and other landscape elements using representational realism. This class is for all levels of painters. Beginning Drawing

Learn to draw what you see! Improve your paintings by beginning with accurate drawings. Learn skills that build talent! Veteran art teacher, Dave Jones, is back with his fun and comprehensive five session drawing course. This individually paced course is for absolute beginners, as well as experienced artists. It provides the eye training and teaches the manual skills that lead to better paintings and drawings. Dave Jones is an accomplished artist and teacher, as well as a jazz saxophonist. Painting Studio 

Veteran Mary C art teacher, Dave Jones, is back. He is teaching this fun and comprehensive acrylic painting studio, for both beginners and advanced students. Learn color theory, paint mixing, composition, and a wide variety of acrylic painting techniques. Get one on one coaching  that leads to visible improvement in your work, whether you are an absolute beginner, or an advanced painter. Learn the skills that develop talent and produce paintings you like! You will complete at least two finished paintings during the five sessions. Build a top notch tool and supply kit using a provided online shopping cart (cost is about $100 in addition to tuition), or use supplies you already have. Intro to Digital Photography with your SLR Camera

This class is for SLR cameras only (you can remove and replace the lens). Do you look at your photos and wonder “what was this shot about?” Ashley Rodriguez, our fun and informative instructor will help you get ready to take that “perfect shot” of that important moment. Ashley will teach class participants how their camera works including aperture, shutter speed, white balance and many other functions. Learn all about the different menu options that your camera has and how to put them to proper use. Participants will also learn the basics in digital photography using general composition techniques.

Come and learn the basics of glass cutting and stained glass window construction in this five part introduction to stained glass fabrication class. Each student will learn how to cut basic shapes out of glass, soldering techniques and window assembly while creating their own piece.

Beginner’s Private Voice Lessons

Songwriting Club

Are you inspired by the Mississippi Songwriters Festival? Have you ever been interested in writing your own songs? Join us for the first songwriting class at The Mary C where you will learn about different genres of music through the history of several Mississippi songwriters. Students will also learn tips for song writing, including writing on demand and co-writing. Guest speakers and performances can be expected, as well as a group song writing project at the end of the session.

Jazz Improv

Join veteran jazz saxophonist Dave Jones for this weekly class / jam session to learn how to improvise and practice jazz tunes, in a comfortable group setting. Students will listen to and play along with recordings of jazz rhythm sections playing the chord progressions from the vast jazz standards repertoire. These recordings cover all jazz styles - Swing, Latin, Dixieland, Gypsy Jazz, BeBop - and will be used to learn the melodies and how to improvise on the chords used in those tunes. Students will learn to work in a jazz band setting, listening and responding to each other's improvisation, and composing on the spot arrangements.

You must have at least 1 year of lessons on your instrument

Young performers will learn the FUNdamentals of acting in this 6 week class taught by Cliff Thompson. They will learn theatrical movement, voice and body awareness and improvisational techniques through fun games and activities.

Broadway Prep

Students learn dance combinations, scenes and songs from a major Broadway show. Video and audio of original Broadway casts are used as tools to acclimate the students to the world of professional theater. The class concludes with a showcase featuring the students' work.

Introduction to Acting for Adults
