Sewing Camp for Kids 9 - 14 years old

Student will make a pin cushion, alligator sewing kit, pot holder, scissor holder, boo boo bag, jean purse with bag keepers, chef hat and apron, beach tote bag and a handkerchief halter top. Students must supply one pair of old jeans for purse project.

Grow Your Food Culinary Camp

This interactive culinary camp for kids ages 6 - 14 will start out with teaching the basics of how to grow your own food. Children will plant their own herbs and small veggies in the first part of the week and they will learn recipes during the week to use these ingredients. They will learn the importance of fresh food. Clean up will be taught at the end of every class to ensure proper sanitary techniques are employed.

Monday – Planting - Children will plant herbs in The Mary C Herb Garden. They will also start their own seedlings to take care of for the week of the class and to bring home to plant at the end of the week. They will plant basil, thyme, dill and mint. They will also start their very own vegetable seedling.

Tuesday – Friday we will meet in the Cafe and each day we will learn a new recipe using the fresh herbs we planted in the garden. Children will be able to eat what they prepare in class each day.

Theme herbs for each day are:
Tuesday – BASIL - Panzanella Salad and easy Sausage Spaghetti with fresh basil or Basil Pesto Chicken Lasagna (older classes)

Wednesday – THYME – Chicken and Dumplings with fresh salad and thyme dressing

Thursday – DILL– Making Pickles with fresh dill and a creamy dill sauce for dipping fresh veggies

Friday – MINT – Mint Chocolate Brownies, Mint Chocolate Ice Cream

Beginning Pottery

Learn the basics of wheel throwing in this small class with local artist, Mark King. He will teach you about centering, raising the vessel and all the other skills needed to create a completely functional piece of pottery of your own. Each class is limited to 5 students to allow for maximum individual time with the instructor.

Ocean Springs Figure Drawing Group

Calling all artists! Whether you sketch, paint or sculpt, drawing the figure has historically been one of the best ways to continue to hone your skills. The group will meet weekly to draw from live models. There will be no instructor, just a session organizer. For more information, please contact Jessie at jessie@themaryc.org

Landscape Painting in Acrylics

Learn about acrylic painting from local artist Bruce Seabolt. Recognized for his beautiful coastal landscapes, his was was chosen recently for the cover of DeSoto Magazine. In this class you will learn how to paint skies, clouds, water, trees, sandbars, marshes and other landscape elements using representational realism. This class is for all levels of painters. Choose a landscape scene of your own or one can be provided. Please call the Mary C office for a list of supplies you will need to bring to class - 228-818-2878.

Alpaca to Afghan Workshop

Student will experience the art of hand-processing fleece, all the way from the animal to hand-knit afghan. The two day workshop begins with a brief history and biology lesson about this wonderful camelid, cousin to the llama. Hands-on processing of their luxurious fleece will follow. Hand tools are used throughout the process to simulate how fleece was processed prior to the industrial revolution. Upon completion of the class, student will have the knowledge of hand-made yarn process the finished product.

Intro to Digital Photography with your SLR Camera

This class is for SLR cameras only (you can remove and replace the lens). Do you look at your photos and wonder “what was this shot about?” Ashley Rodriguez, our fun and informative instructor will help you get ready to take that “perfect shot” of that important moment. Ashley will teach class participants how their camera works including aperture, shutter speed, white balance and many other functions. Learn all about the different menu options that your camera has and how to put them to proper use. Participants will also learn the basics in digital photography using general composition techniques.

Stained Glass Classes

Come and learn the basics of glass cutting and stained glass window construction in this five part introduction to stained glass fabrication class. Each student will learn how to cut basic shapes out of glass, soldering techniques and window assembly while creating their own piece.

Beginner’s Private Voice Lessons

Advanced Private Voice Lessons

Come study voice with one of the top vocal educators in Mississippi. Learn everything you need to know from pitch, diction, posture, audition tips and attitude in these one-on-one 30 minute classes.

Young performers will learn the FUNdamentals of acting in this 6 week class taught by Cliff Thompson. They will learn theatrical movement, voice and body awareness and improvisational techniques through fun games and activities.

Broadway Prep

Students learn dance combinations, scenes and songs from a major Broadway show. Video and audio of origiinal Broadway casts are used as tools to acclimate the students to the world of professional theater. The class concludes with a showcase featuring the students' work.

Introduction to Acting for Adults

This 6 week acting class is ideal for the new adult actor - whetther you've been onstage before or just want to check it out. Learn the fundamentals od acting using different techniques including Margolis and Meisner. Through entertaining activities and games, you will learn scene studies, character development and audition prep.
