Thank You list:  The IP Culinary Arts Café was made possible through the generosity of many:

  • The IP Casino Resort & Spa, through the generosity of President and General Manager Jon Lucas and the Engelstad Family Trust, initially donated over $100,000 in cash and equipment to the Café project. As their enthusiasm grew,
  • Vice President of Food & Beverage Stephen Morgan and Public Relations Manager Elaine Stevens, arranged additional contributions valued at over $60,000 for remodeling and building of the commercial-grade kitchen. VP Morgan’s cadres of talented chefs continue to generously give their time and share their years of knowledge.
  • Viking Range Corporation of Greenwood, MS made it possible to include custom Viking kitchen appliances and top-of-the-line cookware for the Culinary Arts Café.
  • The City of Ocean Springs and Mayor Connie Moran funded $23,500, as startup funds to hire Café Director and purchase supplies.
  • Mayor Connie Moran and Alderman Chic Cody for $4,000 for commercial-grade dishwasher.
  • The Jackson County Board of Supervisors, initiated by District 5 Supervisor John McKay, contributed $20,000 of support.
  • HUD Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding provided approximately $30,000 for the floors and walls before the room renovation could begin.
  • Ocean Springs Public Works and Andre Kaufman for the tremendous assistance, skill and labor of their team, from hefting immense appliances to handling our electrical needs.
  • Centerpoint Energy and Russell Barrette, who installed the gas service to the Mary C. at no charge.
  • Historic Ocean Springs Association (HOSA) donated $3,000 to purchase tables and chairs for the Café.
  • Mary C.  Board Vice-President Melanie Allen for donating 40+ hours of tedious work re-tiling the backsplashes.
  • Hugh Hyland and the Sanders Hyland team for the floor tile installation.
  • Susan Gulledge for helping install backerboard for tile.
  • Contractor Dominic Skelton for contributing his electrical skills and technical guidance.
  • Our Culinary Arts Director, Anita Nobles Arguelles, for many extra hours contributed.
  • The Julias”, a volunteer Café group led by Helen Effinger, for their many hours contributed to preparing the kitchen for use.
  • On the Menu for their support, including 20% discount on stock purchased from them and for offering our class participants a 15% discount coupon.
  • Sonia & Dennis Cowart, for all their hard work in designing the floor plan and overseeing the multiple contractors.
  • Current and past Boards of the Friends of the Mary C.
  • Betty Magee for the initial Café concept.
  • Executive Director of the Mary C, Eric Zala
