The 2006 Ocean Springs Music Fest will present a talent showcase
on Friday, August 4th at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center. This
showcase, sponsored by the Dance
Revolution Studio of Performing Arts, will provide an opportunity
for aspiring artists to share their musical talents with their
community, and to help them further their talents through adjudication/critiquing
by well-qualified judges.
The Festival
The 2006 Ocean Springs Music Festival will be held on Friday,
August 4, 2006 at the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center and on Saturday,
August 5 at Marshall Park.
On Friday night, the 4th, there will be a talent competition for
young musicians The Mary C. theatre, followed by a performance
by a talented group of young girls called 4 Part Angel.
On Saturday, the 5th, bands will play on two stages at Marshall
Park in downtown Ocean Springs from 11a.m. until dark. Each band
will play a one-hour set on the main stage followed immediately
by 30-minute acoustic set on the second stage.

Entry
- All entries/performances must be suitable for general audiences.
- An entry fee of $10 is required for all entries and includes
two tickets for the performance on Friday, August 4.
- Multiple entries are allowed, however, applicants (if chosen
in more than one category) may only be allowed to perform in
one act on Friday, August 4th.
- Entries are restricted to individuals ages 25 and under.
- All entries require Audition, preferably through video or audio
tapes/CDs/DVDs. A live audition (time reservation required)
will also be held (tentatively on July 22) for those unable to
provide video or audio submittals (location/time to be announced).
- Entry forms may be picked up at the Mary C. and must be submitted,
along with the entry fee, to the Offices of the Mary C. O’Keefe
Cultural Center by 5:00 p.m. on July 21.
- Selected performers will be notified by phone no later than
July 24.
- Categories include: Song Writers, Vocalists, Musicians,
and Bands.
- The Audition Committee will evaluate all entries and select
finalists for this showcase. The Committee’s selections
are final.
- Finalists will perform on stage at the Mary C. on Friday August
4.
- There is a mandatory rehearsal on August 2nd for all selected
finalists.
- Final Category Placement to be determined by the Audition Committee.
Competition
- All performances will be critiqued/adjudicated by a panel of
judges.
- Performers will be judged on Clarity of Sound, Technique, Audience
appeal, Personality, and Other (choreography, style, originality …)
- A nominal Cash Prize will be awarded to the top score in each
category.
- Limit one act per person.
Singers: Any act of a solo, duet, trio, small ensemble
of vocalists utilizing an accompaniment track (provided by entrant
on CD) or a cappella. Emphasis on vocal techniques and abilities.
Musicians: Any act of a solo, duet, trio, small ensemble
of instrumentalists. No vocals. Emphasis on instrumentalists
techniques and abilities.
Bands: Any Act of vocalist(s) accompanied by musician(s). Emphasis
on the harmony of all Vocals/Instruments involved.
